HISTORY
Right on the Alpe Adria bike trail that runs here along the old railway, the former train station building has been upcycled and transformed into a functional unique pit stop.
Cafe, small restaurant, rooms, library, Wi-Fi and a bike shed for bike rental and repair. Our idea is to meet the travelers needs keeping it simple and friendly, just like in the local mountain lodges.
The nineteenth-century projecting roof casts the perfect shadow during hot summer days, the right spot to rest and taste something good from our kitchen.
For our simple dishes we mainly use local ingredients from the region.
Upstairs our simple retro rooms make it possible to spend the night in a very unusual location.
To get to know more about us and what is going on at the old station take a look at our Facebook and Instagram pages at “Stazione di Chiusaforte”.

Ciclovia Alpe Adria

From Salzburg in Austria to the italian beach in Grado, our Alpe Adria bike trail runs fast and breathtaking towards the Adriatic Sea. The path meanders trough austrian valleys touching  Bischofshofen, Badgastein, Spittal and Villach, it crosses the Alps with great ease in Tarvisio and uses the incredible old railway to reach Chiusaforte and Venzone, among the most beautiful italian villages. Next stops are Gemona, Udine, Palmanova, the ancient roman Aquileia and finally the island of Grado and the sea.

In 2016 and 2017 we rode all the way on our bikes to write a short guide, for you to find on our counter. What a ride! Pure adventure!

Chiusaforte

Chiusaforte and Raccolana lie on the Fella River: cold mountain water running fast trough the Canal del Ferro Valley and dividing Carnic from Julian Alps. This valley has historically hosted one of the main routes connecting the Adriatic area with N-E Europe, and even more since the Chiusa Castle was built during Aquileia Patriarchs times.

Mountains surrounding Chiusaforte are home of many natural treasures: Montasio pastures, Canin carsic gardens, Sella Nevea, Raccolana Valley and many forgotten montain villages like hidden Costamolino. A vast network of trails allows to discover these gems while trecking, mountain biking or even canyoning. Many trails also allow to visit important WWI sites, since the front line ran right on these peaks.

While staying in Chiusaforte you can have free access to the sport centre with its football and tennis court and, if intrerested in our history, pay a visit to the Fortress, a big defensive fort built on the Col Badin, the crag closing Chiusaforte to the West.
